PASSPORT TO THE FUTURE – LUSPIO University was founded in 1996 and is the only university in central and southern Italy that boasts specialisation in the training of language mediators, conference interpreters and translators. Along with an undergraduate programme, it also offers a postgraduate course (M.A.) in translation and interpreting. LUSPIO was also granted access to CIUTI, an international association of all the best university institutes specialised in the training of interpreters and translators. LUSPIO meets the challenges of globalisation by breaking cultural and language barriers thanks to student and teacher exchange programs with many foreign universities. LUSPIO students can attend courses abroad, in European or other international universities located in countries such as Great Britain, Malta, Norway, Belgium, France, Spain, Austria, Germany, Russia, China, Canada and Switzerland.

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMES – LUSPIO curricula are internationally oriented. In addition to studying English, French, Spanish and German, students can also acquire a thorough knowledge of Arabic, Russian and Chinese, thanks to classes specifically tailored to their needs and held by native language teachers. They can also master the languages they study by enrolling in study programmes in Arab countries, China and Russia. LUSPIO has signed numerous agreements in the last few years with prestigious foreign institutes (twenty such agreements to date) and is now fostering relations with specific strategic markets: the Mediterranean, Eastern Europe, Russia, United States and Canada. LUSPIO is also part of the UNIMED, a network of universities in the Mediterranean, and participates in the Marco Polo Programme designed to attract Chinese students to universities in the Lazio region.

A UNIVERSITY TAILORED TO STUDENT NEEDS – Students and teachers share a fruitful exchange, remaining in close contact throughout their studies. Students also benefit from high-quality services and state-of-the-art IT tools (wireless internet connection is available throughout the university). They may also attend courses to take the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL). LUSPIO offers students a canteen and surrounding greenery. Thirty annual scholarships ranging from 1640€ to 4360€ are available for low-income students who achieve outstanding results. Reductions are also available on transport: students coming from more than 600 km away are entitled to a 10% discount on their tuition fees and their one-off registration charge. An innovative system called InfoBUS has been introduced to allow students to check bus schedules in real time, thus avoiding long queues at bus stops outside university facilities.

NEW TECHNOLOGIES – LUSPIO features a library that houses books, dailies and multimedia. The LUSPIO conference hall is equipped for conferences and videoconferences. The university has 5 new computer labs with 109 workstations, a multimedia lab with 24 workstations, 4 rooms equipped with booths for simultaneous interpreting and classrooms equipped for distant learning. On-line services include: an exam booking system, thesis request forms, administrative forms, notice and class schedule boards, as well as a Facebook community. In February 2007 the LUSPIO library became part the of the Network of Cultural Institutes of Rome (IEI) and of the National Library Service (SBN) which is the Italian library network. In the framework of such cooperation programmes, LUSPIO actively supports its students in their research by providing librarianship and bibliographic references
